Liberate yourself from painting on an easel or wall and explore the freedom that sketching in oil on paper and mylar can offer you. Using just oil, gamsol, and linseed oil, students will explore the use of light and shadow, composition, and anatomy of the face. Working with a limited palette and from a photo, students will be encouraged to break down the human face using quick gestural brush strokes as they work on building up the image of a face.

NOTE: In accordance with San Francisco guidelines, all participants and faculty will be required to wear masks that fully cover their nose and mouth for in-person, indoor class time.

Oscar Lopez is an educator, painter, muralist from Mexico City living in the bay area. His works are based on human interaction with the historical and the now and human emotion. Oscar uses contemporary, traditional techniques since his education was in french academic styles with the analysis and conceptualization in current times, utilizing his bilingual nature.  His artworks are in national and international collections. His artwork has been on display in places such as the De Young Museum, The Triton Museum, Haggin Museum, NY Academy, Time Square NY, SFMOMA Artist Gallery. His artwork has been published in  Artist magazine, Tu Mejor Pintura Book in In Spain, Illega Squad Mexico, Aero Arte en Graffity Mexico. He earned his education in a private atelier studying french academic styles and master techniques,  BFA at the San Francisco art Institute, Currently finishing his MFA at San Jose State University.
